Financial You – Part 2
The Maven’s Keys to Financial Contentment is my idea that true financial contentment can be found when an overlap of money and beliefs occur. Many people ask the question of how to be “financially content” and this is a discussion to uncover those answers.
What makes up financial you? Is it your money? How do you feel about it? Are you happy? Are you content? If you are or aren’t content do you know what is making you feel that way?
ASSESS, ADDRESS, ADJUST, ACHIEVE
In the next step of addressing, this when we figure out we need to do something about what was uncovered. It is ok to not know “what” to do. What happens when you realize you are overweight and that it could lead to you not reaching your goal of longer life or a healthier enjoyment of life? When you identify that you are overweight, you now have a few choices: will it be dieting, exercise or some combination. No matter what you choose you realize you want results that will get you to your goal of weight loss.
- Likely with your current physical state of being overweight there is an accompanying mindset of frame of thinking about your image, your weight, etc. that has aided in your current condition.
Identify that there a problem with how you view yourself that has resulted in your current condition. You can conduct this exercise not only for your weight, but for your financial condition or any other situation. This part is important–this acknowledgement or addressing–is your line in the sand to say that “where I am is not where I want to be”. And you have to own this so that you can change.
- You may have to do some really deep work about how you got to this place. If you are in debt, was it through bad spending habits that led to the debt? Or was it something else? Or if you haven’t saved enough for retirement at this point, why is that? Whatever your situation is, you have to own it so that you can move forward. The old folks would say, “getting to the root of the problem”.
